confidential & customized

I offer a healing environment which acknowledges that we are complex beings, all different from one another. This truth means that therapy is not a one-way-fits-all journey. The counselling and therapy process is tailored to each person’s own unique needs, challenges, personal history, and life circumstance. While my clinical framework is primarily pyschodynamic, the ways that I work with clients may incorporate a range of therapeutic techniques and approaches. These might include: psycho-synthesis methods, visualization and imagery techniques, transformative mindfulness methods, solution-focused therapy, expressive arts, dream work, cognitive-behavioural approaches, and relaxation techniques.

Collaborative & Client-Centered

I believe that we are all seeking to grow into the deepest expression of ourselves, to live our fullest and best life in our own unique ways. Your decision to enter therapy or counselling affords you an opportunity for furthering and deepening that journey of self-development, so you will find your goals and dreams honoured here.

My approach to working with clients is collaborative. This means that together we will look at what has brought you to therapy, where the difficulties lie, what your hopes for change might be and how you might get there. We will jointly explore developing new strategies and  creative options so that you are able to make different and healthier choices that will ultimately enhance the quality of your life.

COUNSELLING VS. THERAPY?

I work with clients in long-term therapy as well as in shorter-term counselling depending upon your needs and goals. In both contexts, your emotional, psychological, physical, spiritual and relational selves are explored through a holistic perspective. Where they are thought to differ is that counselling is usually a more focused, short-term process that provides a supportive space in which to explore current difficulties. Although there may be issues which arise that trigger experiences from your past, the focus of the sessions is usually around dealing with the here and now and finding a resolution for your current situation.  Past experiences may be addressed when they are getting in the way of your present capacity to feel joy in your life and in your relationships.

Therapy is more like a journey of self-discovery and awareness. It is usually a longer-term process that aims to explore the root causes of suffering, to bring more clarity about how your past experiences and family history may be linked to repetitive or long standing issues and how these may continue to impact you and your relationships. These are brought into awareness in order to assist you in developing insight about what triggers you and how you might respond in healthier ways, discovering different choices and coping strategies so that you ultimately feel more comfortable with who you are and improve the quality of your life.
